Machihazure
Machihazure is a photographic exploration of the peripheral zones of Japanese urban space, shaped by repetition, quietness, and subtle forms of abandonment. Focusing on architectural forms and shared civic structures, while deliberately excluding human presence, the work positions space itself as the primary subject.
Through absence, these dormitory areas emerge as suspended landscapes, where traces of function, time, and collective memory are embedded in the built environment. The project reflects on these marginal spaces as quiet yet critical sites for observing contemporary urban life.
